You need to increase the screen resolution within Ubuntu. Depending on your version of VMWare will determine how big you can make your screen size. Try to match the screen size with what you have in Windows.
If you plan to keep Ubuntu I suggest installing the latest version using the WUBI installer. This will allow you to run Ubuntu programs on top of Windows (but more safer). You can also uninstall Ubuntu later if you don’t want it anymore from the add/remove programs under Windows.
Find the screen size and then configure your screen to be the same resolution. I guess you are running at 800×600 or lower. Type the model of your screen in google and note the maximum resolution. It would be of the format 1024×768 etc
