The bridged networking option will have the virtual os attempt to achieve an ip address from a dhcp server (by default). The easiest setting I have found is to set the networking to NAT and share the connection. *fyi NAT doesn't work if you are trying to remotely connect to the virtual system.
If you want to get the bridged setting to work, you first need to make sure the native os can connect. Then from within the virtual os check your internet settings. Check to see if your computer is obtaining an IP address. I don't personally use any anti-virus/firewall software, but that can block your virtual computer from internet if running on your native os. With vista, it has a firewall by default, go in control panel and make sure to allow VMWare internet access.

For the network settings of the Virtual Machine, select NAT. This will enable the guest OS (XP in your case) to use the same IP as your host OS (Vista) and you will be able to access Internet once you connect Vista to the Internet. But remember with this setup, you cannot access Guest OS outside of the Vista machine.
This is a tested configuration and I am running two Guest OS on a Win XP box and both have access to Internet this way. Of course there are other ways also, but this is the simplest.
Pls let me know if you have a problem.

Just set the 2 machines up on the same subnet. They'll communicate with each other automatically.

"tried playing a computer game"
NAME the game please!
Please re-post and explain in full detail, with Error messages, what you mean by: "but my computer could not take it". Then, maybe we can help.
TIP: If the Game doesn't support two CPU's, that's NOT the REAL problem!!!

If they say hp on them, then no, as those are oem cd's and can only be used on the computer they came with.
If you want a computer with xp on is still and not vista. here are two sites that still offer xp computers.http://www.warehousepoint.com/http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/…

Don't hurt to try.. Worst case is you burn about an hour of time..

The general rule of thumb is about 4 VM's per server processor. With that low of RAM, I would not expect any performance. The additional caviot is how much RAM you allocate for the VM's.
